History of Pop Video From Bing to Beatles

History of pop video

From Bing to Beatles

Bing Crosby
Bing Crosby was the biggest star in America and Europe. For fans to see him he stared in a film named “White Christmas” seeing him in a film was the only way for fans to see him because back then there was no music video for people to see.

Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra was the replacer of Bing Crosby. He followed the same step as Bing Crosby as he featured in films and hosted many TV specials in order for fans to see him. As exciting as he was back then frank Sinatra was the first pop artist that girls screamed for.

Elvis Presley
In the 50’s Elvis Presley was introduced and also what came with him was an earthquake named rock and roll. The fans saw Elvis on Television as well as seeing him star in films. In the late 50’s Elvis Presley was not allowed to be seen performing on television. Elvis Presley also hosted concerts in the USA. However as he entered the 60’s he had fallen back because of The Beatles however he made a comeback by changing his style with his famous white costume. Eventually even with the style change The Beatles crashed his party.

The Beatles
Music back then was dominated by America however The Beatles came and by 1966 they became the biggest act in the 60’s. By the time they got to 66 they were very tired of performing on tour because in their concerts there was far too many girls screaming which made their voices not being heard as much in their live performance. Further on they tried many different ways to promote their music eventually they was successful because they ended up appearing on BBC. One of their biggest tours was in America where they performed at Shea Stadium. When touring in America they managed to break every single pop record made in America. In their due to the amount of people they had to move into much bigger venues. The Beatles also made two films. In 66 The Beatles made 2 new singles (Paper Back Writer ad Rain) and films then sent them of to be on television so their fans can see them on television. The two films that where made was made within a day.

Purpose of a Music Video

Purpose of a Music Video

Promotion/Money Making:
Promotion is used to promote the song, the artist and album. They do this to persuade the audience to buy the artists CD or to even download. It benefits the artists as it help them get a bigger audience awareness for the artist and the record company. They do this because the artist, record label and so on could get much more money which will make them big.

Synergy:
Synergy is when the music video is alive and is used in many multimedia campaign this is just a way of a song being promoted. The music industry has a connection with many different media associations such as radio, TV, print media and film. there is a clear feel of synergy around many platforms for example film.

Synergy Between Alicia Keys and The Amazing Spider Man 2
There is clear synergy within the Alicia Keys song (Its on Again) for the film The Amazing Spider Man 2. The music video shows clear scenes of the movie and Alicia Keys singing the song. The music has many quick editing of the movie and Alicia keys singing. Also what links Alicia keys to the film is the costume that she is wearing. The costume that she is wearing links the two as she looks like the villain in the film. The location of the music video also links it to the film as it is in the same place where the movie was filmed. In one scene of the film the lights where turned out in city and that's what links the film to the music video because in the music they turn out the lights in the city as well.

Type Of Music

Type Of Music

Artist can be separated into two clear categories

  • Organic Artists: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay
  • Synthetic Artists: The Monkees, One Direction, The Spice Girls and Little Mix

Organic Music
Organic music is when the music comes first, this kind of music is made the way they want it to be made. Organic music often attracts a short number of audience that enjoy original music. If the music group is singed they would try to see the music to the right appealing audience. A example of a organic music artist/group The Beatles they started off creating lots of their own music. When they got signed and became a big group in the music industry they created more of their own music. The Beatles had people offering for them to use their music and equipment however they refused to do so as they want to continue making their own music.

Synthetic Music
Synthetic music is when a record label company has the power to for a group out of people who share no history or know anything about each other. a example is The Xfactor they can pick five people who had done well in the audition and form them into a group. A example of one of the groups that came from the Xfactor is little mix as they were formed into a group before they progressed into the judges houses. This is a very good way of getting money as the group can get big.

The brief

The brief

This year I will have to create a music video that's is as long as 5 minutes.  The music video will be lipped synced. We have options on whether to work on our own or to work in groups.

Also what I'll be doing for the video is i will have to create a digipack for the cd release. I will have to create a magazine advertisements for the digipack as we'll.

Once I have completed with my music video I will have to evaluate my performance on how I achieved and what was difficult in making the music video.
