Creating An Image

This image is a planner for my music video. All the features in this photograph is the features that i will be using for my music video.

On the photo above i have included the location of my music video, the costume and props for my music video and of course the song choice of my music video. Originally i had two different songs that i had to chose out of, they both had very different genres to each other the first one a less pace slow love song and the second a bubbly and quick paced rock song. So whatever song choice i would have chosen would have a major impact on the costumes, props and locations. I and my group ended up picking the rock song by Jet Black Ally Cat with the song named poison. Choosing this song made me and my group think very hard so we just imagined ourselves as rock stars. What typical rock stars do for the music videos is very easy they wear skinny jeans, a top with symbols on them and have a rock band behind the main singer. We chose multiple locations for our music video as you can see in our photo above.

Blog 13 Sexism in the Music Industry

In this blog i will be discussing about sexism in the music industry. I will be using some examples of music videos from artists such as Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines), Miley Cyrus (Wrecking Ball), Lilly Allen (Hard Out Here) and Jennifer Lopez (Booty).

Are Pop Videos Sexist?
Pop videos could be sexist as it always should depend on the genre and what the song it actually portraying. If a pop videos is rap and the song it about a girl then it may be sexist if the rapper is raping about the girl in a sexual way, however it may not be sexist if the rapper is rapping about her in a non sexual way.

Women in music videos can be used as objects if the song is about being sexual. This type of idea is always used in R'n'B and rap music. In most of these two genre's there is always a group of half-naked women dancing on touching the artist even if the the artist is female.

Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory
Laura Mulvey's previews the females are seen as an object because the male gaze always drops the women's identification. Laura Mulvey's theory also consists that women can only view themselves from a secondary perspective which is viewing themselves from a males perspective. However the appearance of women in a mainstream film texts is something very important. What is important for women in a film text is how she makes the male feel and act because she doesn't have a real importance of herself. If a male is present then that's when the female exist. There is hegemonic ideologies when the male gaze is in play. Hegemony means ruling or dominant in a political or social context. Laura Mulvey had stated that there is two roles that a female character functions.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry – how her Pop Videos appeal to her target audience and reflect her private life

When analyzing Katy Perrys Music Video i will be using Andrew Goodwins theories to describe the music videos.

Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics
(e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).

There is a relationship between music and visuals
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style and ‘fireworks’?).
There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, looking into the camera etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body. Katy Perry’s videos appear ‘Feminist’ but she also appears ‘sexy’ in parts.
There is often intertextual reference (to films, TV programmes, other music videos etc – “Wide Awake” refers back to “California Girls” and “Firework”).
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style: think Michael Jackson’s white shoes or glittered glove, Bono’s sunglasses, Gaga’s whacky and frequent costume changes; think poses, dance moves etc).
There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, looking into the camera etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
There is often intertextual reference (to films, TV programmes, other music videos etc).
Target audience = young girls (14-17)
Katy Perry has to a) be like an older sister / friend b) reflect some of the anxieties young girls have c) be someone young girls can admire and want to be (appear sexy in a non-threatening way)

Hot and Cold

In Katy Perry's music video Hot and cold she had showed many things that happens in a women's life. in the music video she was previewed as a happy women who heart will be broken in a vision. The music video shows that you should be careful what you do with your partner because you can get heart.

Last Friday Night

This music video was controversial as Katy perry related it to a teenage girls life. Some

Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Don't Go Breaking My Heart

In my media class we was told to create a music video for the song Don't Go Breaking my Heart by Elton John and Kiki Dee. We used various of media products such as Adobe Premiere, Youtube and many more.

How i filmed the sequence

I was put into a group of three so everyone had a role in the group i and grant was the two singers which meant that Darren had to film the music video. We used many angles to film our music video. Close ups, long shots and extreme close up. Using these shot angles i was able to manipulate them on premiere making a unique sequence of the music video.
How i edited the sequence

I used many methods to edit the shot of my music video. Given from the shot angles i used it was very easy to edit. The song was very fast paced so it was quite tricky at first however i was able to get used to it very quickly. I could say the lip synching was the trickiest because i had to find the best one out of the angles that we had shot.
Any mistake i made

I could say that there was no mistakes made while we was filming or editing.
What i have learned about filming a performance that i can apply to my final production

I learned how to edit much more effectively by using many cutting. By using these i am now able to use it on my actual media Piece. I also learned how to work on premiere on my own which gave me some experience and learned the difference between final cut, after effect and flash. This gives me the confidence to perform my final media production

Lyrics

Song Lyrics:

Oh good lord
Think I've gotten in too deep
In all my luck
It's been making faces at me
I lost my girl and my spunk
All in the same week and I said
Oh, oh,oh that liquid action be tempting me

Let's bounce
All night
We're turning off my memory
This club is a house
Will my mama ever forgive me
I wanna be cheered up
And I want drinks all around
I wanna break my rules
I wanna rock this town

And oh
Shame on me
And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison on our tongues

Oh good God
Man I clearly lost my track and all day long
I've been trying to straighten my act up
I dropped my phone in a rush
And I swear that I just snapped and I said
oh, oh, no
Man I'mma I'mma I'mma be stumbling right back

Let's bounce
All night
We're turning off my memory
This club is a house
Will my mama ever forgive me
I wanna be cheered up
I want drinks all around
I wanna break my rules
I wanna rock this town

And oh
Shame on me
And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison, poison

Oh
Blame it on me
And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison on our tongues

we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues
we got the poison on our tongues

And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison, poison

oh
Shame on me
And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison on our

Oh
Blame it on me
And oh
I guess the snake got free
'Cause we got the poison on our tongues

Let's bounce
All night
We're turning off my memory
This club is a house
Will my mama ever forgive me

Let's bounce
All night
We're turning off my memory
This club is a house

Britney Spears Star Theory

Britney spears raises very interesting issues the female identity in pop music. She is viewed as the role model for teen girls in the market. In a males view Britney spears is put in a secure place in the male-dominated industry which manufactures very limited stereotypes of the females.

Britney spears early videos had shown young girl life such as having applying make-up, bedroom culture, dressing up with friends and having lots of dolls. She also had Choreographed dance routines that imply the desire of being part of her gang.
